Adding Exchange server account back

C

Chris

After installing the latest round of updates, I found my Outlook was
unable to connect to my group's exchange server. Repairing it didn't
work, so I removed the account and tried to add it again.

When Outlook is open:
"Cannot add an Exchange profile while Outlook is open. Please close
outlook and use Mail in the Control Panel"

When I'm using Mail in the Control Panel:
"Cannot connect to server [to resolve the username, log in, etc].
Outlook must be open and online."

Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone know how I break this
catch-22?

Outlook is 2007. Exchange is 2007.

Hey Chris -

My suggestion: Close Outlook all the way, making sure no processes are
running (rebooting probably the best way). Then with Outlook closed, go to
the Mail module in Control Panel, delete your profile and re-create it.

Hope that helps.

No use. Tried reinstalling outlook. Tried recreating the profile.
One thing I noticed was I don't see the security prompt asking me for
my password. Now when I go to a password protected web site in
Internet Explorer, which normally gives me that prompt, I don't see
that prompt there either.

I'm sorry that didn't help. I've consulted with a few people and wonder if
you might get any help here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969519. Beyond
this, I hope one of the MVPs on this group might be able to help.

As for the password, the advice I got was to check the password you saved in
your Windows profile (Control Panel, in User Accounts > Manage your network
passwords).
