Adding Contacts from Global Address book

G

Guest

I have a user that is unable to add contacts from the global address book.
When he opens the contact (user properties) in the global address book and
clicks the add to Contacts button nothing happens. The contact just closes.
Usually another screen comes up asking you to verify the contact and it's
properties then save and close. I made sure that the user is working online
and I ran a detect and repair.

User was keeping personal address in a PAB instead of contacts. He wanted to
use contact lists. Changed the option under address book options.

Yup.
And Outlook 2003 no longer has the option to add to a PAB.

Hi Russ,
You seem knowledagle, maybe you can answer this related question..

can only import address book main identites contacts name properties for
default email addresses from Outlook Express (OE) to Outlook 2003 (OL). All
other e-maill addresses are not imported to OL.

Please help... Maybe can't be done, if so, then how could one find the file
(dbx ?)and read its contents that would include the e-mail address(es) in OE.

The keystroke input procedure that I am referring to on OE is as follows:

1) In address book - main identity ...for main identities contacts
a) put your mouse on the highlighted name field
i) look at the e-mail address(es).... if there is more than
one(default) email it
is NOT imported to OL
Thank You,

No idea. This is more related to OE than Outlook.
What happens if you do the import when one of the other identities is
running?

Hi Russ,
Just concentrating on the sunny day scenario.... since I'm not trying to
complicate the import. I'm only a single station user and I guarantee no
other processes were running.
FYI, I've tried mailnavigator and also OE-mail recovery, where they both
fail to capture multi email addresses in OE.

Thank you for responding. If you find out, please let me know.

I do have a separate post for this problem, but Ben's header would seemed
more saleable for a reply.

Take Care,

Stan

Hi Russ,
The trials and tribulations of e-mailing rather than phoning.
As I stated in my initial message:

"can only import address book main identites contacts name properties for
default email addresses from Outlook Express (OE) to Outlook 2003 (OL). "

Problem lies when a contact has more than one e-mail address, as some folks
may have, e.g. to separate out their home and business e-mails;
OE ONLY exports the "default" e-mail address to OL...any additional e-mails
are NOT imported from OE to OL!!

Furthermore, since the standard microsoft outlook importing does not work
for multi
e-mails... I tried to experiment with mailnavigator (free download), which
I thought rereads dbx files.. (OE file structure), but no such luck.. only
interprets mail messages. If this program had worked, I could have then
copied the contents of the dbx file and saved it elsewhere for finding the
added email addresses.

Hope this is clearer. Can you help?

Take Care,

Stan

Probably not.
This is an OE question, not an Outlook question. It would not surprise me
that only the default email address might be imported, but I've never seen
any confirmation of that behavior.
