Adding computer to a domain

M

Mark S

Hello: One of my users has Windows Vista Home Premium. I want to add the
computer to my domain hosted by Windows 2003 small business server.

I cannot find the feature to add the computer to the domain. The usual
location is the "Computer name" tab of properties of "My Computer" in Windows
XP Professional.

I am new to Windows Vista.

Thank you, Mark

Hi.

On WVista click on the Flag (left bottom of desk = start) there is a pop-up
menu like in WinXP the right-click on Computer and then in Properties and a
info window may appear beside the computer name and group is a link to
"change settings" there is the domain change or add feature.

i hope this will help you.

Best Regards,

Julio

Hello, Julio.

There is a sentence in the windows field that reads, "Windows Vista home
premium cannot join a domain."

Which version of Windows Vista can I purchase to join my domain?

Thank you, Mark

Well Mark,

the best version may be de Ultimate, it has all the network
gadgets of XP with the exception of netware networks, so if you have a
netware system it is better to stay in XP. This XP Ultimate is the one I
have and works OK.

BRegards, Julio.

Hello, Julio.

Did you mean that I should purchase, "Windows Vista Ultimate"?

Thanks, Mark

That's right Mark,

I really don't know if Home edition has all the network posibilities that
Ultimate has, so if you could still choose a version, it is better to have
the Ultimate Edition for any instance that may occur.

If there is any way I can help you do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Julio

Home Premium is not for joining a domain!

You need Business or Ultimate.

Just buy an upgrade disk; not a full retail disk(save some money!) I would
suggest Ultimate as Business does not have Media Center.
