I tried to label a form button with text including the '&' character, which
the button translated to "_"

I can't find any help on how to use the ampersand...

Use two. For example 'Black && White' is displayed as 'Black & White'. This
is because the ampersand is usually used to define a short cut key, for
example if the caption is '&Black' the B will be underlined and the user can
'click' the button by pressing Alt+B.

Brendan,

I must tell you how happy you made me with your little ampersand trick - for
ages I have struggled with squeezing text using "and" into small buttons and
labels! Thank you very much!
