Adding calendar items

What is the best method for adding calendar items from a standalone .net
application to a calendar folder on an exchange server?

I would prefer communicating directly with the exchange server, but using
Outlook is also an alternative.

If you want to talk to the Exchange server directly, you'd use WebDAV.
