adding bookmark

Word 2007, Windows XP Professional: I'm trying to add a bookmark but when I
type in the bookmark name in the bookmark name box, the Add button is greyed
out. I'm not using any spaces. The place I want to bookmark is within a
"table title" style but I didn't think that would matter. I even tried
placing the cursor directly into the table and the "add" button is still
greyed. Also, I deleted all the OLE_LINK bookmarks. The "add" button was
available when they were there but when I tried to type in a new bookmark
name it would turn grey. Am I missing something?

I don't know how to respond to these and have my response show up. Sorry.
When adding a bookmark, the bookmark must begin with a letter and cannot have
any spaces in the bookmark text. Hope that helps.

This might not be the problem here, but do you know that bookmarks have to
start with a letter? If your first character would be a number or some kind
of punctuation mark the "Add" button would be disabled.

Well I'll be darned. For as long as I've been setting bookmarks I guess I had
never tried to set one that started with a number. That's exactly what the
problem was. Too bad MS Word help doesn't tell you that right from the start!

Many thanks to you and Yves.

If you still want to use a number, you can start with an underline and then
the number.
