Adding Attachment in Outlook 2007

I am trying to send a plain text msg and attach an xls file to a person using
Thunderbird. The msg composes just fine, including the attachment, but when
he receives the msg, there is no attachment. This method worked just fine in
Outlook 2003. Is there something I'm missing with 2007?
