I just received a new laptop. the laptop came with WinXP SP2 installed on
it. I am in need of installing smtp on my laptop. When I try and add it it
prompts me to install the WinXp SP2 cd. My laptop didn't come with one!
Since the os was preinstalled all i need to do was created restore cd's. I
obtained a WinXP sp2 cd but this doesn't work either. It keeps looking for a
particular file which it finds but it must be a wrong version.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks

If you have bought a full retail XP SP2 CD as opposed to just SP2 on a CD
then perform a repair installation. This will overcome the limitation of
your OEM version of XP.

If you have only SP2 on a CD then it will not have the files you require.

If you only have the Restore CD set as supplied by the Manufacturer, give
them a call and ask about how you can install the options you require.

Typically the 'Options' are in a separate foler of the installation CD,
however I am not familiar with the unnamed laptop you own and can't offer
further comment.
