Add up whats in a column

I have a column that I would like to tally up how many times text has been
entered. There are 300 rows and a number of these rows have yes entered - I
would like to know have text. Thanks. Using 2007.

Try this:

=COUNTIF(A1:A300,"*?")

Will count *only* text!
