Add space in Virtual PC to upgrade WinXP to Vista?

Greetings...

I've successfully installed Vista RC1 into a Virtual PC (VPC) as a clean
install. Now I'd like to try upgrading a WinXP SP2 VPC installation to Vista.

I think the host hard drive has lots of space for the VPC to expand;
however, Vista says there isn't enough space to upgrade an installation of
WinXP SP2.

How can I increase the amount of space in the Virtual PC WinXP installation
to install Vista? Should I change from a dynamically expanding VPC to a
fix-size VPC or ???

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers, Stephen

Hello...

The apparent answer, from the Virtual PC newsgroup, is that space/size
cannot be increased once the VPC has been created -- default size is
something like 16GB. My choices are to create a new WinXP VPC which is larger
or remove some of the programs on the current WinXP VPC in order to do a
Vista upgrade.

Cheers...

Hello again...

My workaround for this challenge is to NOT enter a Product Key when the
initial start installation begins, which then leads to a choice screen of
approximately eight different versions of Vista which, I assume, provide
more/less features.

I chose a version that would upgrade WinXP but didn't reguire a full
installation.

If I understand things correctly a regular installation with Product Key has
to be activated in 3-days while one without a Product Key has 14-days. I
assume I can insert the Product Key somewhere/later given another posting in
this forum.

Cheers...

It depends...

If your Product Key was received from the CPP, it will only activate Vista
Ultimate. If you install a different version, you must have a Product Key
for that version, or it will not activate, and consequently, bad things will
happen. Not "cats sleeping with dogs" bad, but bad nonetheless.

Thanks, Mark... I'm seeing exactly what you are saying. Anyway I'll have a
couple of weeks to look at the upgrade before it is toast. fwiw the clean
install seems faster than the upgrade and will be an more pleasant view of
Vista.

Thanks, Mark... I agree with your comments. fwiw the clean install seems
faster, so I will focus on it in my look at Vista.
