What is the best way to add a little space (one or two characters worth of space) between two columns (or even all the columns if necessary)? Usually I just add a blank column. Thank you all very much.
You can also mess around with the horizontal alignment and width of the
columns to add space between values instead of actually inserting a new
column. Try highlighting the column and then Right-click > Format cells >
Alignment tab > and then experiment with the Horizontal window
selections.........you can change the appearance of the sheet quite a
bit...........

Thanks for that suggestion. I probably should give a little more of an example. Column A is a number. Column B is left justified regular old text.
Since the numbers in Column A are at the rightmost part of the cell and Column B's text is at the leftmost part of the cell, the cells in the two columns are virtually running together. (I'm not using grid lines.)

Maybe try indenting the text col ?
Select col B (text)
Click Format > Cells > Alignment tab > Click to Indent "1"
(The text alignment under "Horizontal" will read "Left (Indent)")
