Add secondary DNS server via registry

Hello All,

I have a mid sized network of 200 Windows XP workstations that when
originally set up only have a primary DNS server defined. We need to
add a secondary DNS server address top each PC in case the primary
fails, however visiting each PC is not an option. Is there a way to
make this change via the registry? Is there an easy way to accomplish
this? My searches have been coming up empty so any help is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Dominic

Wouldn't it be easier to configure your DHCP server to assign this?

Hi Kerry,

Yes, except that our PC's have assigned IP's due to software that we
run in our business. No one is on DHCP except for a handful of laptops.

It is still usefull to use DHCP exactly for situations like this. You can
reserve an address for each pc. This allows you to use static IP's but still
make global changes and manage everything from one pc. If you are using
Active Directory you can use a group policy to set the DNS settings.
