Add/Remove -- stop loading app icons?

Is there a Registry hack or something to stop the Add/Remove applet
from loading app icons of entries? That's what slows down the list
being populated, and it makes opening Add/Remove a long 60-second
task for me. :(

This has been the behavior for Add or Remove just as File/File Types.
Take any of your further issues here: (e-mail address removed)

Mails to that address have gone unresolved for years. I've tried with
other issues. I seriously doubt MS implements any such wishes. :(

I don't think that applications' icons are the problem

It is. A file monitor shows that the app's executables are being
accessed by the Add/Remove applet. There is really no need, except
for aesthetic reasons. All uninstall info is in the Registry, with
no need to show the icons. I've checked and even written a test app
that loads and displays all uninstall strings in zero time.

Sure they do. as do the folks reading these boards. As per the issue you
have expressed on, I have never seen a system that needs/needed one minute
to load Add or Remove. Perhaps your issues are elsewhere. That said, which
file monitor stated so?

FileMon by www.sysinternals.com (a well-respected app and company).

For the record, I have a LOT of apps installed, and an old PC (PIII
at 667 mhz, which may have something to do with it).
