On the add/remove screen it indicates I have an virus programme in the system
(43mb. When I select the programme there are no options given ie Change/
Remove.

Is the prog realy there and if so how do I remove it?

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated

I am attempting to install V10 of Mcafee. The virtual tech says I have an
outdated version on my comp. I have removed all refs to Mcafee in the
registry, the root directory and using msconfig from the start up. The add
remove screen indicates I have the Mcafee Home Edition in the comp but screen
does not give option REMOVE. I recognize the dangers of no AV protection so I
loaded AVG but as I paid for VS V10 I would like to use it. Any thoughts?

Follow this link. Theres a scroll box at the bottom of 2nd from left
column. There's a couple of "how to uninstall" options.

Also look under the start menu programs for the McAfee shortcut (if you have
one). Some list an uninstall option there as well. Not all progs show up
under add/remove unfortunately.

Once on the McAfee site use the search button (top left of screen). Put in
[uninstall home edition] without the brackets.

Then scroll down to Manual Uninstall of McAfee etc. In the right hand pane
there is a registry clean up file.

That might get the little blighter. :o)

Thank you very much for your response. I have removed every location in the
registry pertaining to Mcafee. A complete search reveals no references to
Mcafee. Using msconfig all references to Mcafee have been removed. I
installed an older version and then removed it. The add/remove progs in the
control panel still indicates "Home Version" but there are still no
selectable options to change/remove.
I re loaded V10, ran the Virtual Tech and it indicated the VS version was
out of date. This is the usual response to an older version still in the
system. THe question is why is the add/remove screen indicating an older
version? I could find no ref to this problem in windows Help. I still cannot
update the DAT files in V10.

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility solved the problem
I'm glad you got it sorted.

I always think its the mark of a good program when it uninstalls completely
leaving no trace behind.
