A pertinent comment from your link:

"For the record, Microsoft has little to do with how well or how poorly
"Add/Remove Programs" works. The dialog is just a list of uninstallers
that has registered with the OS. The uninstaller is still supplied by
the company that wrote the software and the installer."

Hope this helps.

Are you using any image cloning software like Norton Ghost or Rollback?

Are there any other tools like Task Manager or Event Viewer not working?

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Try
regsvr32 appwiz.cpl

This would reregister the add remove program cpl files. However if the
registry is corrupt, find a tool called arpdiag.exe.

Hi Gerry:

Nothing relavent in event viewer or log. I can open the control program
and view programs installed, however, when I doubleclick on the Change/Remove
icon nothing happens. Other two icons are active. (using win XP, SP2)

Hi Jabeti,

If you cannot get this resolved you might take a look at this little app. I
find it very useful and goes beyond the standard Add/Remove programs in
Windows.

http://www.nirsoft.net/

MyUninstallel--Alternative to the standard Add/Remove applet of Windows
operating system.

It's a standalone app meaning no install is needed. Just create a folder and
give it a name of your choice. Unzip the files to that folder, create a
shortcut wherever you like and run the program.

It provides additional information for most installed applications that the
standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product name, company, version,
uninstall string, installation folder and more. Once you open it you can
Select one app or All and save the results in a .txt .htm etc. etc.
