Add hardware and Device Manager

Well one day I turned on my computer and I went to go add new hardware, and
when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't let open it no matter what I did. I
tried run program, right click and open but nothing works. Then I tried to
open it in the device manager and it says that I have no hardware listed or
on the my computer. Does anyone know how to fix this?
 
Try installing xp cd,exit the info page,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:
Sfc /Scannow When its thru type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then type:
Exit Restart computer,remove xp cd.
