Add extension to wpd files

I have thousands of old WordPerfect files and back in DOS days
it wasn't necessary to give them a special extension. But to
archive them it would be useful if all my WPD files actually had
..wpd at the end of the file name. Is there any freeware that can
look at e.g. the file header (always has WDP in it) and add a
extension when it finds a WPD file?

Have a look at a recent post about file type detector
<(don't know if the one suggested will work in batch mode).

Thread at Google: <http://makeashorterlink.com/?A2B332266>
or:

Check out the DOS file id type software listed at
<http://members.cox.net/dos/filefind.htm#fileid>. "Analyzer" for
instance. (do a online search for file/names if download links
at this site no longer works)

All the best,
