add cells ignoring hidden cells

I have a sheet where i have applied a filter so i can see only one group of
numbers, i want to do a sum on these number but ignore the hidden cells. is
there any way to do this. i've had a go as the subtotal formula but don't
think it's suited. is this possible. thanks.
 
=SUBTOTAL(109,rng)
