hi sir

i have a 2000 domain structure,in that one dc with ip
192.168.100.100 and dns 192.168.100.100,recently i
installed a new additional domain controller with ip
192.168.100.5 and dns is 192.168.100.100,while installing
the active directory object's are copied to ADC,so
everything is fine.

after a week suddnly my dc fails but my users are not
logging to ADC.what is the problem?is there any
configuration missing?..

Point your users to use new server through DNS.For instance putt the
configuration on NIC on users machine to use both DNS servers.

They should use the AD integrated DNS. Can you resolve the DCs FQDN from the
clients and the servers?

It doesn't matter if the DNS is AD Integrated or not. It just needs to
be configured correctly.

My first AD installation used Windows 2000 DNS on member servers.

Christoffer, I think what he is saying is that he installed an
additional DC (ADC?) successfully, but one week later the original DC
failed. Now he finds that the users cannot login to the additional DC.
Please see if you agree with me.

If this is his problem, he needs to seize the FSMO roles from the
failed DC (assuming that it will never come back).

Cheers,

Cliff

Yes that's correct. How ever if you let DCPROMO Install the DNS when you
promote the first Domain Controller it will create an AD Integrated zone.
Have a nice day!
