AD Restore - out of ideas to get this to work

My clients AD infrastructure is Dell machines running on servers that support
hyperthreading - the kernal (?) therefore installs support for a
multi-processor server.

The test D-R facilities are regular Dell workstaions with standard
processors and for the life of me I can't get a restore to work. At bootup
the progress bar freezes just before the logon screen and network detection
takes place.

I can't boot into D-R resotre or dafe modes. I am installing everything with
the same paths, drive letters etc.

I am really worried that come D-R testing day at IBM that we wont be able to
restore as they have Compaq kit....

To prove my actual restore method works I built a Dell workstation, added it
to the domain and mande it a DC hosting all the roles. I then built another
identical machine, installed AD and then in D-R restore mode restored a back
from my Dell workstation - it worked 100%.

So, what on earht can I do. I can't not be able to restore on the test day
at IBM.

Is it any better on 2003? We are going to upgrade so I *could* in theory put
a 2003 DC onto the domain and make that the machine we restore at IBM....

Any other ideas?
