AD Computer Objects

Does anyone know what events trigger the modifyTimestamp attribute to be
updated ?

We are currently running Windows 2000 Native Mode AD and we are trying to
find out what computer objects are inactive. I know this feature is
available in Windows 2003 Functional level but we are about a year away from
that. Is there a way to determine what computer objects no longer have a
physical machine attached to them.

We currently have approx 3500 PC's and over 7000 computer objects.

Any help would be a big help right now.

Thanks

Any time an object is modified in any way either through a replicated change or
an originating write change the modifyTimestamp aka whenChanged gets updated.
The attributes are specific to a given DC only. For instance a change could
occur on DC1 and it take two hours to replicate to DC2, the timestamp on DC2
will be two hours later than the timestamp on DC1.
