Ad-Aware + Avast = Bad Combo ?

I tried installing Avast and Ad-Aware on Windows XP. It seems like
Ad-Aware's Ad-Watch routine is keeping Avast from running. Avast will
only load if and only if I disable Ad-Watch from the WinXP system
tray.

It seems very peculiar because, apparently, these are two of the most
popular freeware Windows-based security programs on the 'net. Yet it
doesn't appear like they can coexist on the same computer. I have a
hard time believing nobody noticed this problem before.

I am currently running both Ad-Aware and Avast on my WinXP Pro machine. I
don't know if it matters, but I had installed Avast prior to installing
Ad-Aware, and I haven't noticed any kind of conflicts.
