ad and spyware

yeah i accidentally came across some of that junk on saturday and it changed my homepage and there are ads which are constantly popping up at various sites. i tried to delete the programs that run these things but it always tells me - cannot delete make sure it is not write protected and not in use - anyone know how to fix this? thanks.

I recommend Spybot HOWEVER...

Once or twice it's failed to remove everything necessary so when you rescan
it says it's still there or it's come back. If you have this problem run a
search for the particular nasty you have and look for the manual removal
instructions from sites like Symantec, Pest Patrol etc.

Go to http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
and there take the link to the alternate source for CW Shredder, about
half way down, and run it to Fix things. It will handle the most likely
cause. After that the Adaware, also linked from that page
