Hello
Im new to AD and DNS ..
I have installed AD on window 2k server, and accepted the instalation of DNS
as part of AD instalation.
Everything seems to work well, I can even use my dns server to allow
workstation to brows the net...
However, if i want to brows my web pages that are on IIS on same server, I
have to type in the url such as
http://abc.xyz.com. where abc is the server netbios name and xyz.com is my
AD name ..
i don't think there is something worng with this , but what can i do to only
type in my AD name and be able to brows my webpages on same server ? ex :
http://xyz.com
should i add alise name to my DNS ??

Thanks

When accessing sites on this server if behind NAT the record must resolve to
the webserver private IP.

Just to add to Kevin's suggestions, if the website is for internal use only
and the webserver is internan AND is not the DC, then this cannot be done
internally since the LdapIpAddress (called the "blank FQDN domain record,
that shows up as <same as parent>) is already registered by the DCs. This is
for domain GPO and DFS functionality, among other things. There are reg
entries to modify this registration behavior, but not recommended to
implement them, since they may affect GPO, DFS and possible replication
issues when trying to "find" the domain.
