ActiveX Warning and Yahoo

Hi All,

XP Fully Patched, IE 6 Fully Patched.

I have some users who are complaing that IE Information Bar is
displaying the message, "Your security settings do not allow Web sites
to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer".

The machine's browser has been hardened so that Internet Trust is
Medium-Low. But Yahoo is part of Trusted Sites (*.yahoo.com). So I
don't understand why I'm getting the issue. I'm also told the same
happens on MSN.

I _think_ Yahoo may be displaying content from another site (invoking
the warning), but I can't view the page source to verify - Yahoo is
performing a quick redirect through a refresh.

I've performed a cursory search on Google, and gone through a few KB
articles. Any comments?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,
Take a look at IE> View> Privacy report. Any content coming from other
sites?

In Internet Options> Security> Trusted sites, are the default settings being
used? Default should allow ActiveX.

And... doesn't sound like this problem:
909889- ActiveX controls may not load as expected in Internet Explorer due
to defense in depth changes introduced in security update 896688
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889
But, you might try http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/kb896688_fix.zip
(KB896688_fix.exe; a small VB app that checks the 4 values and offers a
repair option if any of them are incorrect)

Hope this helps,
Don
