Upgraded from Win98SE to WinXP SP1 on my wifes computer.
Now she can't access online activex games nor the windows
update site. I also tried downloaded some of the updates
but when trying to install any of them it says the
update.inf file is bad basically (Ask and I will post
quotes of the messages)
I am getting a generalistic message that not all activex
elements can be displayed at the windows update site
which does just as the error message warns, won't let the
page display properly. Just as the Scan for updates
button is about to appear the message pops up then it is
forwarded to info on lowering the security setting for
activeX. Well, I dropped them all the way down first then
customized it so everything was possible without
improvement so far (I have solved a lot of the security
issues and such that popped up also that are not related
to this). I even booted up off the upgrade CD and had it
FIX it. It did solve some other items that were driving
me up the wall but did fix the problem accessing the
windows update site. Where should I start looking next
since I don't see anything restricting its activex in
MSIE or under the security policies (also logging on to
the administrator account results in the same behavior)...
Help! Before she kills me because the only way out is to
wipe the drive and put a clean install of XP back on and
spends days/weeks/months trying to recreate all games and
such she has installed in the past too many years...
