Active Directory Installation failed

Brian

I have upgraded my NT (PDC) to Win2k Advanced server but
when trying to install AD and join an existing forest as
a child domain i get the following message:

The operation failed because:
The directory service failed to create the object
CN=UKLU,CN=Partition,CN=Configuration,DC=eu-ias,DC=com.

"The role owner attribute could not be read"

Thanks

Hi Brian-

Did you have a different domain controller in existence with that name
(UKLU) in the forest? If so, was it demoted succesfully?

More detailed error information may be shown in the
%systemroot%\debug\DCPROMO*.LOGs and %systemroot%\debug\DCPROMOUI*.LOGs.

There area few other things to look at. I would ensure that AD replication
between your domain controllers in the forest is working well. A quick,
straightforward way is to gather a DCDIAG /V from each (or DCDIAG /E to
gather all at once in the enterprise) and pipe it to a text file. The test
in the results(s) to look at tis the Replications Check, but this gives the
added benefit of other DC-specific tests being included.

Please let us know what results you find and if we can help out.
