active desktop - i hate it

Do I have to use Active Desktop in order to force down a wallpaper? The
colors get all funky when I use it around my icons, and I it just
doesn't seem to have sharp detail.

I want to force down a .bmp but not use Active Desktop - possible?

Thanks

Yes you can write an ADM that will change the wallpaper in the registry. The key is in HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop.

Here is a link to some ADM information, if you get stuck, post back.
