"Active Debugger" warning

J

Jayna

I bought my new computer yesterday. It has Windows XP,
and I've updated the Service Pack. I then tried to
download a game that had worked fine on my Windows ME
computer (the game was only released 4 days ago, so it is
WinXP compatible) and everytime I try to start the game I
get this message.

Warning "This application cannot run with an active
debugger in memory. Please unload the debugger and
restart the application."

Hewlett Packard Support say they have no clue what this
means (XP came installed on the computer by HP),
searching the help files on the computer, and searching
Microsoft, and Google, haven't led me to understanding
this warning message, or how to fix it so the game will
work.

I've tried running the game with both the firewall and
Norton turned off. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the
game (Insaniquarium Deluxe from Popcap.com). I've made
sure that Insaniquarium is on the firewall's accept list.

What is my "active debugger", and how do I get it to stop
buggin' me?

I posted this originally on Performance and Maintenance,
but while other posts are getting responses, mine sits
lonely. I think perhaps, even though it is a problem
with a "debugger" type program, I should be posting it
here to games. I really don't know, but I'm not doing
anymore set up to my computer until I have this figured
out, in case I need to reinstall XP or something. Which
means I have a nice new fast computer I can do nothing
with yet <pout>

That error may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

a.. There are programs (such as an antivirus program or debugging software)
that run in the background and that interfere with the game startup process.
b.. Your sound card or sound card drivers are outdated.
c.. The Creative Audigy sound card is installed in your computer. This sound
card may conflict with the game startup process.

Thank you, Jimmy;

That article held the instruction that was needed to
correct the issue.

Previous versions of my new computer's processor (AMD)
used to have a problem, and microsoft xp was equipped
with a fix for it, however, my new processor had it's own
fix from the manufacturer, and the two fixes equaled
strangeness. (Can you tell I'm very computer literate?
lol)

Thank you for the info, Jimmy!
