i bought a new comp. and gave my old one to my brother
with the hard drive from the new we reformatted because
of drivers from the new comp. going over to the old one.
the message says windows is activated but now does not
work. any suggestions on how get past this message, and
activate windows
james

If the new computer came with Windows XP preinstalled,
then you cannot use that preinstalled, OEM version of
Windows XP on a different computer. You'll need to
purchase a conventional "full version" of Windows XP
and install it on the old computer.

Just do it, you should be able to re-install it as many
times as you want. It will activate on-line every 120
days otherwise you have to use the automated activation.
After say two installs you'll talk to someone tell them
anything you want.
