Activation Question

Tom S.

I want to build my own computer and get rid of my current
one, which is running windows xp. I realize thst during
activation there might be a problem because that copy
is "fingerprinted" to the old system. When I call
Microsoft, will i be able to uninstall xp from the
current computer and install it onto the new one and
obtain a new activation code?

Also same question with Office XP. I heard they do allow
upto two concurrent installs.

Thanks.

Your answer to both questions depend on which version of XP and Office. Both
must be non-OEM in order to transfer them to a new system. If you do, so
both pieces of software must be completely removed from your old system. I
also believe you can legally install the non-OEM version of Office XP on one
desktop system and one laptop system, but check your license first. Yes, you
will likely have to reactivate, possibly over the phone. Just explain what
you did to get a new activation.

Yes on the first question. As far as Office XP is concerned, you can legally
install it one desktop and one laptop at the same time. You would have to
call MS to activate the second installation.
