Activation is done once you have entered a correct CD (Product) Key. If the
key is a valid one, you can activate it by phone and the system will work
correctly indefinitely (or until you re-install months/years later!) Retail
versions of XP can be activated by the Internet also.

Without the proper Product ID code for the installation you cannot
activate Windows. There's no legitimate or safe way around it.

What about "i do not have the activation code" (obviously meaning PID
code) do you not understand? Your reading skill are showing again.

There is no "activation code" that is needed for Windows XP.

There is a product key that is needed in order to install Windows XP
but you must already have that or you would be totally unable to
install Windows XP.

However once you have installed Windows XP you must activate it within
30 days and at that time you may be told that the product key you used
to install Windows XP was invalid.

Is that is what is actually happening with your computer?

If so then you need to contact your brother and obtain from him the
correct product key for the actual Windows XP license for that
computer. You can then use that product to install and to activate
Windows XP.

Good luck

Have you looked on or in the computer case?
Are you reinstalling from the hard drive or a CD?
