Activating XP!!!!!!!

Activated XP over the phone - now have to re-activate everytime I start up.

Carey Frisch, Microsoft MVP, recommended trying the following:

1. Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
2. Go to Start > Run and type: %systemroot%\system32
then press the Enter key.
3. Locate these two files: wpa.dbl and wpa.bak
4. Rename the wpa.dbl file to wpaold.dbl and wpa.bak to wpaold.bak
5. Reboot your computer into Normal mode.

This will force activation on the following boot, but should remove the
message that you are already activated message. Sometimes if these files
get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.

It didn't work - still having to activate at start up.
Anyone got any ideas?

Try repairing the registry entries used by the activation .DLL files.

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Good luck

If that does not remedy the problem, call MS support. I think
support calls regarding activation are free.

Thanks Ron, I tried that but I still have to activate at start up. Any other
ideas before I try the MS support hotline again!

Nope. That reregistering trick usually fixes this problem.

I have seen some instances where it was suggested that the computer be
booted into Safe Mode and then do the registry items in safe mode. Not
sure if this will make any difference but it may be worth trying.

Good luck
