activate windows cannot run because local scripting has been disab

I have a machine with Xp Home on it. After removing some spyware the computer
would no longer run many program instalations. Installing NAV2005 for example
it would get stuck on the first screen of the installation saying that "Your
current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page".

After a lot of searching I tried a lot of things, but I didnt find anything
on the net or the MS knowledge base that would help. I then reinstalled XP
with the repair option. Now I am even more stuck as it wants to activate
windows before it will let me login. The problem is that when I click Yes (i
want to activate now). I get an error message "Activate windows cannot run
because local scripting has been disabled on this computer". And, if I click
No, then it doesnt let me login either.

It seems to me the activex errors I had before the reinstalltion and this
new scripting one are probably related

I am still able to login in safe mode, but I cant find what is causing this
"scripting" problem. I can find settings in internet explorer about allowing
scripting and activex, but changing these seems to have no effect.

Can anyone help please with what I have to do to fix this? Thanks

Download the off-line installation.

Then boot into safe mode and install it. After installation, disable
any spyware program that runs at startup and/or has realtime protection.
Then go into IE's Internet Options, go to the security tab and if you
have a Custom Level setting, hit the Default Level button.

Reboot, and try activation again.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you said, but I am not able to install the
software in safe mode as you suggested. I get the following error message:

“The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if windows installer is not correctly
installedâ€

I had already disabled any spyware programs and anti virus realtime
protection. As best I could anyway by just disabling all their entries in the
run>msconfig>startup

Is there any other way around this problem?

thanks

See if that thread can help, and if it doesn't you can try installing,
the old MSVM.

Thanks for the advice, but none of that seems to be helping. Installing an
old JVM also doesnt help

Ive tried a lot of other things too, including reinstalling Windows Script 5.6

Do you have any other ideas?

Go into Internet Options from Control Panel, Go to the Security tab and
set to the Default level.

Failing that, do a repair install.

I had already done the default security settings and also a repair install 2
times

Thanks for all your help, but I had to give up and started on a fresh
install this morning. Due to time constraints I couldnt mess around trying to
fix it any longer

Thanks again

Sorry. This is one of my main complaints about PA, it creates new
things that can and will go wrong with the operation system. If it
wasn't there, you would have had to go through any of this.

Good Luck on the clean install.
