Activate printer in application

I have a new PC with Windows XP and clicking on Print in
an application does not turn the printer on as it did in
Windows 98. Can I configure Windows XP so that it will
turn the printer on? My printer is an HP Deskjet 810C.

If this was a feature of the older drivers, then probably not. HP decided
not to write updated drivers for this very discontinued printer - originally
released in the days of Windows 3.1! Microsoft did write drivers so that
you could still print, but the drivers may not have all the advanced
functions you were used to.

If you really need to turn the printer off by clicking the mouse, then it's
probably time to get a new printer. If you can manage to reach over and
actually turn the printer on by pressing a button on the printer, then keep
the one you have.
