Action button

I want to create an action button that when the viewer of the powerpoint
presentation selects it results in the launch of a custom animation of some
shapes on that slide.

Basically I created two autoshapes that have some information within it, and
animated them to appear and dissappear on mouse click. Then I created an
action button that I want the user to select to close the two shapes if they
don't want to read the information (so the autoshapes with the information
close when you click the action button and not just when you click on the
slide....)

Any one know how I can do this?

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? If you are using 2002 or 2003,
you want to set an Exit animation for the shapes and have that exit
animation be triggered by the click of the autoshape. After you have set
the exit animation, click on it in the animation list and choose timing
from the drop-down menu. Then click on triggers and set it to be
triggered by the click of your action button.
