Hi, I feel like such a retard, I moved all my files over to One of my Hard D.
because I was going to install a fresh copy of xp on the other. ANd I
accidentally deleted the a partition on the drive that had all my
info....Dowwww....
Then to top it off, I ran the xp cd on it and went to recovery file, and saw
the old famous Fix Boot... Ha, I ran that and the darn thing installed a FAT
patition that wont allow me to reinstall a copy of windows on it without
loosing my documents and setting....

I got into one big mess,
Can someone Help...

TestDisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html) is a free
"Tool to check and undelete partition".

I ran into an issue where I was not "paying attention" to details when
attempting to rebuild a Windows XP Professional workstation.

I had downloaded all of the drivers that I was going to need to an
external 160Gb USB hard drive. During the DOS portion of Windows XP
setup, setup displayed "ALL" of the hard drives associated with the
workstation (including the external USB drive). So, I proceeded to
"delete" all partitions on all drives with the intention to reformat
using NTFS and start the "rebuilding" process. After confirming my
desire to "delete" the partitions ("D" - "Enter" - "L") is when I
realized that I deleted the partition on my 160Gb external drive that
was not supposed to be part of the equation... I simply forgot to
unplug it until I needed it... which was going to be much later in the
rebuild process after Windows was installed.

Desperate, I started searching Google for help on recovering a
"deleted" partition. I came across several "free" utilities and decided
to stay in the "free" arena for help. This is when I came across
"TestDisk". It's not pretty, it does not have fancy screen and runs in
a DOS window. This utility is not for the novice or beginner because
you have to actually set the "type" of partition that you are wanting
to interrogate / recover. But for those of us who work in the IT field,
this util is a "must-have" for its ability to recover your "lost"
partition.

I was able to navigate thru the different menu options and successfully
recovered the "deleted" NTFS partition. When I returned to Windows
Explorer and opened the drive, I was extremely relieved to see all of
the contents that I thought was "lost forever".
