Accessing workgroups over WAN

With in our network we have both Novell and Microsoft
servers. We are currently accessing the MS server
through a workgroup, is it possible to access this same
workgroup from a remote location?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the
help in advanced.

If you use a VPN connection it will be just like you're
remote machine is attached to the local area network.
You'll be able to access the workgroup and all of its
shares.
 
This location is accessed through a T1 using routers.
Are workgroups even supported through routed
connections? We do implement VPN, but unfortunately not
to this location. Should I consider moving this server
into a domain? Please help, any suggestions or pointers
will be much appreciated.
