Accessing Windows Update problem

Guest

I seem to be having great difficulty in accessing the standard Windows Update
site: it takes ages to load, then the "checking for updates" process never
ends. I have validated my copy of Windows with Microsoft.

Meanwhile, the little yellow "security" shield appears in the bottom right
of the screen, saying "Downloading updates:0%" but does not seem to progress
beyond 0%.

I can access any other site [including Microsoft IE7 downloads etc].

I am running F-Secure 2007.

Any thots? Thanks.

There is a known issue with Windows Update causing 100% CPU load
on some systems.

I'd recommend you use the more recent http://update.microsoft.com to
receive notices/downloads. You'll have to install the newer ActiveX
module and use Windows Installer 3.1.

I suggest you post to the experts in the Windows Update newsgroup.
