Accessing User Profile After ReInstalling

I'm trying to solve the problem of how to access the
files in my User profile after reinstalling WindowsXP
Home Edition. Before my "crash" which involved
uninstalling Norton AntiVirus, I had made the files and
folders in my user profile private so other users with
administrative privileges couldn't access them.
After I reinstalled windows, the other user profiles were
fine after I moved the files to new folders but I can't
access the old folder.
I've tried Windows Explorer...accessing from the Dos
Prompt...and several other things, but nothing works.
Does anyone have any ideas
 
Take ownership of the files as administrator then reassign permissions, this should sort it.
 
I'm not sure how to do that. Could you elaborate...Also,
is this possible with XP Home Edition??
