Accessing the fields from mailmerge document after databasefield u

Sir,
I was able to generate a mailmerge document and retrieve the field values
from the word document where the recipient list is the database values. I'm
not able to retrieve the values if any modifications are done to the fields
of the database.
for ex : the field value is : test[this value is retrieved from database]
now i want to do the modification to it like "Testabc" now i want to retrieve
that value and update the same value to the datasource because it is the
datasource.
if i retrieve the database value ,since it is the mailmerge and it is the
field value i'm retrieving only the value"Test" but not "Testabc".

please give the solution

and you must close and reopen the Word doc
