accessing shares

Task: Trying to create a share on Machine 1 which can be accessed from
Machine 2 (details below)

Machine 1: Windows XP Media Center SP2

* Use simple file sharing: NOT CHECKED
* Folder Downloads has been shared. Share and Security has Everyone with
Full Control
* NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled
* Guest disabled

Machine 2: Windows XP Prof SP2

* able to ping machine 1 using its name
* unable to see shares on machine 1 after typing \\machinename\ in
Start >> Run.

Any pointers? Thanks.

Is NetBT enabled on both computers?

You may well have a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other
security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be
the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

You might look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and
"net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):
