i was running xp home and got into some trouble with some sort of
virus/spyware/malware mess..it messed up A LOT ...could not access
system restore, control panel features,etc...eventually i could not
even log in-it was like it changed my password? i had bought a new
hard drive a few days before and i guessed it was finally time to take
the time to install it...i installed new hard drive as the master and
old as the slave... i have some documents on the old i really need and
would also like to copy my favorites...my account on the old one was
administrative and password protected (but remember, my password didnt
work anymore) the old drive is now drive e: ...i went to "my
computer/e:/documents and settings/[my name] ...i couldnt open the
folder! "access denied" ...i couldnt copy it or rename it or
anything...i did something but dont know what and got in it...now i
have the same "access denied" message to all the subfolders (my
documents, etc) i know there is a way because i did it to get that
one level down ...i have since then tried the following:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q308421
but there is no security tab when i right click and choose
properties...the my documents and other folders in there are showing
as read only and empty but so did the one with my name at first... i
cannot even change the read only nature of these folders (i uncheck
read only, click apply, then ok and if i go back to properties, its
still read only) i know there is a way because i did it with the
folder of my name...both drives are ntfs xp home edition... i have
tried various boards, usenet groups, and of course google... please
help i really need my documents and look forward to formatting that
old drive after i get them...if you have any questions i havent
included answers to please post them or email me but please make the
subjectline obvious as i dont wanna open spam or miss an email on this
subject...thank you soo much in advance for your help

Hi Ryan,

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Unmark "Use Simple File Sharing".
Right click the folder/file in
