I just upgraded to Windows XP and Outlook Express 6.0. How can I access the
folders that held my stockpile of old emails?

Also, I keep getting a message that XP has some compatability issue and that
I should go to updatenow.org to fix it. The message is in a pop-up box and
says that it is from MSOFT. Is it legitimate?

The message is not legitimate. You need to turn on the XP firewall or
install one. That should stop the popups.

Nay. It is an attack on your system; most likely coming in via Windows
Messenger Service (this is not MSN Messenger I'm talking about).
Simple approach; shut down the Windows Messenger Service (go to this
site: http://www.jmu.edu/computing/security/info/winmsg.shtml#block)
Best approach; Get a properly configured Firewall on your system.

Regarding the Pop-up, it's not legitimate. If the title bar reads as
MESSENGER SERVICE, then it the world famous
Messenger SPAM / advertisement. Install a Firewall to prevent the pop-ups (a
must). Additional note from Bruce Chambers - MVP:
