I'm happily using Windows Mail on my desktop and want to be able to read and
create mails from my laptop. The laptop has a wireless connection to the
desktop which already allows me to access the Internet.

I assumed I had to set up an account in Mail on the laptop and used the
mailbox and server settings exactly as in my desktop account, but when I then
try to run Mail, I get the following message:

The host 'xxxxxx' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered
the server name correctly.
Account: 'Alastair's Mail', Server: 'xxxxxx', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11003, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

What am I doing wrong?

you can tell us what the server name is... that's not a secret.... but
that's likely where the problem is... you could have a typo. or the SMTP
name in the POP field.....

also, since this is a laptop, are you trying to access your mail while
connected to your network, or to someone else's network?

One thought... you will end up with emails split between the two computers.
To prevent that you may want the laptop to tell your email POP server to NOT
delete emails, just download them. That way the desktop can still get the
same emails off your POP server.
