Access97 to Access2002(XP)

B

Bo Soderstrom

My Access97 database is created by me as the "Database
Owner".
Have added the same User and Password into Access(XP),
100% shore.

Logon to Acc(XP) with User and Password. When I try to
convert the 97-DB I got "The user accout doesn't have
permission to convert or enable this database".

Create a new DB and Import from the Acc-97 database is OK
for all elements except Forms/Reports that has "Run
privilege" to the Admin user (not Group) and full
privilege for the DB-Owner.

Have also a possibly running Access-97 under XP. Can't
open a DB i 97 where only the DB-Owner has full Database
privilege.

Hi Bo Soderstrom,

RESOLUTION
These error messages have three known causes and resolutions as follows:
You have System Objects turned on. With System Objects turned on, even the
Admin user or members of the Admins group are unable to convert the file or
import data because only the Jet database engine has permission to modify
all system tables. To hide System Objects, open a database in Access 97 and
click Options on the Tools menu. Then click the View tab and click to clear
the System Objects check box.
The owner of the database or objects in the database is "Unknown." Open the
database in the earlier version of Access, and then on the Tools menu,
point to Security, and click User and Group Permissions. Click the Change
Owner tab. Select each of the database objects and change the owner to
Admin. If an object's owner cannot be changed, create a new database in the
earlier version of Access and import all of the objects from the existing
database. The owner is set to Admin for all imported objects.
The MSysACEs and/or MSysObjects System table has become corrupted, and
still contains information for objects that no longer exist in the
database. Create a new database in the earlier version of Access and import
all of the objects that are listed in the existing database on the Change
Owners tab in the User and Group Permissions dialog box. To open this
dialog box, point to Security on the Tools menu.
MORE INFORMATION
Steps to Reproduce Behavior
In Access 95, open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
Add a new user to the System.mdw workgroup.
On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click User and Group
Permissions. Click the Change Owner tab.
Make the new user owner of all database objects.
Delete the new user. The owner of all objects is now Unknown.
Close Northwind.mdb and quit Access 95.
Start Access 97 and try to convert the Northwind database. Note that you
receive a permissions error.
Another Way to Reproduce Behavior
Open Access 97.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, click the View tab, and then click to select the
System Objects check box.
Close the Options dialog box.
On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Get External Data.
Select the Access 95 version of Northwind.mdb.
Select all of the tables to import from Northwind, and click OK. Note that
you receive a permissions error.

Thanks for answering my question.

None of your solutions helped.

It must be some differences running Acc-97 under XP. Have
both tested to run acc97 under my normal user (no
permission on C:Windows except r/w on the System.mdw file)
and under the Local-user(Admin) with full permission with
no success.
Have done the following as a test so secure that User and
PW is right:
I was lucky to have my old NT-station left so I have
copied the Acc-Application(mdb) to NT. Logon to Acc-97
with DB-Owner and PW. On this platform the DB is
accessible/working.
DB-Owner(User) has the following Permissions on the
Database=Open, Excl and Amdin. Admin has DB=Open/run. No
Group-permission exist.
Have also checked that the references library is the same
for acc-97(VB, MS 8.0 Obj, DAO 2.5/3.5, Utility).
I shall now try to add full permission to Admin and
transfer the DB back to XP.
