Access to Regedit

In trying to access the XP registry to delete an infected
file using Symantec instructions, the Regedit screen
closes before any selection can be made or clicked.

A similar problem occured in trying to open Norton
Antivirus from my desktop. The screen appears
momentarily but closes before any selection can be made.
