access program slow to save or make changes

I have made an access database with multiple tables (23) and multiple
relationships between them. Access 2000 on PIII 800Mhz 128MB RAM. I have
split the database with the data on a server and forms on client etc. I am
now finding the program really slow to update. When I make changes to forms
and save the program takes minutes to complete the save. No other programs
seem to have this problem. There is barely any data in the database as we
are still in design stage but concerened about the update and saving speed
of the program.

Any suggestions what to look into

Have you compacted the database recently?

Are you experiencing the same slowness when the data database is set local
to a machine? Could the network bandwidth be an issue?

One other thing I usually try doing is create a new database and import the
objects from the old db to the new db.
