Access linked table frustrated me on having primary key

If I do not assign a PK on a linked table, I cannot use DoCmd.RunSQL or to
update the table or directly update the record in ADP. It warned me it was
not updateable.
But I can edit the record in SQL Server.

I don't see why that should be a problem. Every table should always have a
primary key.
