Access .ldb file showing mysterious user??

When I check the .ldb files to see who is logged in to the
databases, it usually comes up with computer name and user
name. Occasionally, the computer name and user name does
not show, but something like: "䵁䅐佒Z????????????浡
z??????????????" shows instead. When I ask that everyone
close the database, it goes away. When I tell them they
can open it again, I get this. However, not always --
sometimes the actualy computer and user name shows instead
of this. What does it mean when this kind of thing shows
in the .ldb file rather than the user and computer name?

Janet,
That is likely what I often refer to as a "ghost user". Whenever someone
improperly exits Access (such as using Ctrl + Alt + Delete) while it is
doing processing, then a "ghost user" can still appear to be logged on.
Deleting the .ldb file is the way to deal with it. You should advise your
users to avoid exiting Access except by the means of exit buttons that you
provide.
